Traffic Monitoring

Track Google SERP rankings and ChatGPT citations to measure your content's reach across traditional search and AI.

Understanding Traffic Monitoring

Traffic Monitoring helps you understand how your content performs in both traditional Google search and AI-powered search like ChatGPT. Track which pages drive organic traffic, monitor keyword rankings over time, and discover whether AI search engines cite your content. This dual approach gives you complete visibility into your content's reach.

⏱️ Estimated Time: 10 minutes

📋 Prerequisites:

  • Active fivebucks.ai account
  • Published website or CMS integration (WordPress, Wix, etc.)
  • Content you want to track in search results

Step 1: Navigate to Traffic Monitor

From your dashboard, the Traffic Monitor section appears at the top of the page. This is your central hub for tracking content performance across Google and ChatGPT.

The dashboard shows:

  • Tracked URLs: All pages you're monitoring
  • Traditional SEO Metrics: Google SERP rankings, estimated traffic, keyword counts
  • AI Search Metrics: ChatGPT citations and query tracking results
  • Last Updated: When data was last refreshed

Step 2: Add Your First Tracking

Click "Add Tracking" to start the setup wizard. You'll enter your domain and we'll automatically discover your top-performing pages.

The wizard covers 5 steps:

  1. CMS Integration: Select where your content lives (WordPress, Wix, or custom domain)
  2. Discover Pages: We find your recent or top-performing content automatically
  3. Select URLs: Choose which pages to track
  4. Add AI Queries: (Optional) Add ChatGPT queries to monitor citations
  5. Confirm: Review and start tracking

💡 PRO TIP: If you have a CMS integration connected (WordPress, Wix, etc.), we'll automatically pull your recent posts. Without an integration, you can enter your domain and we'll discover your top pages using SEO data.

Step 3: Discover Recent Pages

In step 2 of the wizard, we discover your content automatically. If you have a CMS integration, we fetch your 20 most recent posts. Without an integration, we use SEO tools to find your top-performing pages.

Discovery methods:

  • With CMS Integration: Fetches your 20 most recent posts directly from WordPress, Wix, or other connected platforms
  • Without Integration: Uses DataForSEO API to discover your top-performing pages based on organic search data
  • Results: Up to 20 pages with titles, URLs, and preview information

ℹ️ NOTE: Page discovery takes 5-10 seconds. The system checks your domain and returns the most relevant content automatically—no manual URL entry required.

Step 4: Select URLs to Track

Review the discovered pages and select which ones to track. Check the boxes next to important content you want to monitor in Google and ChatGPT.

Selection tips:

  • Prioritize Important Content: Focus on cornerstone articles, top products, or high-converting pages
  • Track Multiple Pages: Select 5-20 pages to get a comprehensive view of your site's performance
  • Review Regularly: You can add or remove tracked URLs later as your content strategy evolves

💡 PRO TIP: Start with your top 10-15 pages. Tracking too many URLs dilutes your focus. You can always add more later after analyzing initial results.

Step 5: Add ChatGPT Queries (Optional)

Want to track whether ChatGPT cites your content? Add specific queries that users might ask AI search engines. For each query, we'll check if ChatGPT references your tracked URLs.

How AI query tracking works:

  • Enter Queries: Type questions users might ask ChatGPT related to your content
  • We Check Citations: Our system asks ChatGPT these questions and checks if your URLs are cited
  • Track Position: See your citation rank (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) and quality score
  • Monitor Changes: Track how your AI visibility changes over time

Example queries:

  • "Best email marketing tools for small business"
  • "How to improve website SEO in 2024"
  • "What are the top project management apps?"
  • "How to write engaging blog content"

ℹ️ NOTE: AI query tracking is optional but powerful. It shows whether AI search engines consider your content authoritative—increasingly important as users shift from Google to ChatGPT for answers.

Step 6: Monitor Tracking Progress

After confirming your setup, tracking begins in the background. You'll see a progress indicator showing the status of data collection for both traditional SEO and AI search.

Documentation screenshot

Tracking status:

  • Traditional SEO: 30-60 seconds to fetch Google SERP data, keyword rankings, and traffic estimates
  • AI Search: 1-2 minutes per query to check ChatGPT citations (runs in parallel)
  • Status Updates: Progress indicators show completion percentage and current step
  • Background Processing: You can navigate away—tracking continues in the background

💡 PRO TIP: The first tracking run takes the longest (1-3 minutes depending on queries). Subsequent refreshes are faster since we're just updating existing data.

Step 7: View Traffic Analytics

Once tracking completes, view comprehensive analytics for each tracked URL. See Google SERP metrics, AI citation data, and detailed performance breakdowns.

Documentation screenshot

Traditional SEO metrics:

  • Estimated Traffic: Monthly organic visitors from Google
  • Ranking Keywords: Number of keywords this page ranks for
  • Top 3/10/50 Keywords: How many keywords rank in these positions
  • Month-over-Month Change: Traffic trends showing growth or decline

AI search metrics (if queries added):

  • Citation Status: Whether ChatGPT cited your content
  • Citation Rank: Your position among cited sources (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.)
  • Quality Score: How prominently ChatGPT features your content
  • Competing Sources: Other websites ChatGPT cites for these queries

ℹ️ NOTE: Traditional SEO metrics update daily. AI citation tracking updates automatically on a monthly schedule (or when you manually refresh). Both tracking types run independently.

Step 8: Manage Your Tracked URLs

Remove any tracked URLs you no longer want to monitor. Click the delete button next to any tracked URL, or select multiple items to delete them in bulk.

Documentation screenshot

Available actions:

  • Delete Tracking: Remove individual URLs you no longer want to monitor (data is archived)
  • Bulk Delete: Select multiple URLs using checkboxes and delete them all at once

ℹ️ NOTE: Tracking refreshes automatically on a monthly schedule in the backend. Traditional SEO data updates daily, while AI citation tracking runs monthly to balance accuracy with efficiency. You cannot manually refresh individual tracking items—all updates happen automatically.
